2023 Climate Change Electric and Gas Bill Credit
By Ed Poole

In late 2015, the California Public Utilities Commission issued a decision that ordered the utilities to issue a semi-annual bill credit to residential and small business customers.  The credit is from a state government program that requires power plants and other large industries that emit greenhouse gases to buy carbon pollution permits from auctions managed by the Air Resources Board.

In 2023, the Commission accelerated the distribution of the residential spring electric and natural gas California Climate Credits to help mitigate large and unexpected winter bills. For 2024, the Climate Credit will return to its normal April and October distribution.  The Electric Climate Credit will be issued in April and October, but the Natural Gas Climate Credit will only be issued in April.

The following shows the credits that will be issued in your April and October bills.
