Affordable Housing: New state legislation would strengthen protections for mobile home owners

SANTA CRUZ — New legislation proposed by a Monterey Bay state assemblyman would strengthen protections for mobile home residents facing displacement, in the name of California’s affordable housing goals.
Introduced this week by Assemblyman Mark Stone, D-Scotts Valley, Assembly Bill 705 would ensure that if a mobile home park is closed or converted to another use, its residents would receive adequate compensation from park owners to relocate to another nearby lot or purchase a new mobile home. The bill would also clarify language allowing local jurisdictions to block park closures if adequate housing isn’t available nearby.
