DON’T WAIT! HELP WMA DEFEAT HARMFUL MANAGER TRAINING BILL
WMA needs your help! SB 869 (Leyva), the state-led, manager training and certification bill, will be heard in the Senate Housing Committee tomorrow. As currently drafted, SB 869 would require on-site park managers to complete 18 hours of mandatory training per year. It is not too late to make your voice heard and let your state senator know that this bill is a solution in search of a problem and is NOT NECESSARY.
As part of our efforts, WMA registered its formal opposition to SB 869 and staff have held numerous meetings with legislators and staff alike outlining our concerns with the bill.
WMA has also activated a VoterVoice campaign that contains a prepared message to be sent directly to your state senator with the click of a button.

BILL TO REMOVE RENT CONTROL EXEMPTION FOR NEW CONSTRUCTION SET FOR HEARING
SB 940 (Laird) will be heard in the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday, March 29. WMA will be launching a VoterVoice campaign and calling upon the membership to engage and help us to defeat this bill, which eliminates the rent control exemption for the new construction of spaces in local rent control ordinances.
In its opposition, WMA noted that SB 940 not only creates a disincentive for parkowners to invest in and develop mobilehome parks, but it also runs contrary to the goal of investing in and increasing the state’s much-needed supply of housing stock.
Look for a VoterVoice campaign coming soon.
WMA JOINS COALITION OPPOSED TO RENTAL REGISTRY BILL, AB 2469 (WICKS)
WMA recently joined a coalition including the California Apartment Association opposed to AB 2469 by Assemblymember Buffy Wicks (Democrat, Oakland). AB 2469 requires the Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) to develop and maintain a statewide rental registry. Landlords would also be prohibited from raising rents or terminating a tenancy if they fail to register. The Assembly Housing Committee will hear testimony on AB 2469 on April 5.
