After six years of delays, the City of Riverside has finally
completed its “review” of their mobilehome rent control
ordinance. This review began in 2018, but staff deferred meetings
until nearly 2020.
At that time, parkowners were scheduled to meet with the city to
discuss the review, but those discussions were postponed again.
This time, it was due to the onset of safer-at-home orders. City
staff, who recommended the review, did not identify any issues
with the existing ordinance that warranted change.
On Tuesday, February 25, two special elections were held to
replace vacancies created when Senator Janet Nguyen resigned last
year to assume a seat on the Orange County Board of Supervisors
and when Assemblymember Vince Fong did not take the oath of
office because he was concurrently elected to the United States
House of Representatives. While ballots are still being counted,
it appears that former State Senator Tony Strickland won his
election with over 51% of the vote and could be sworn in as the
40th Senator later next week.
The Frank J. Evans Charitable Foundation is seeking applications
from college-bound high school graduates for $2,000 scholarships
in the year 2025. Scholarship recipients must live in
manufactured housing communities that are members of WMA, and the
deadline for students to apply is June 30, 2025.
These scholarships are made possible through the generosity of
those who have contributed to the Foundation.
WMA is hard at work preparing to launch a new interactive website
and a robust learning platform that will include a wide range of
on-demand courses available to the membership. Our online system
will undergo a blackout period during this transition and will be
temporarily unavailable.
WMA hosts a Zoom chat on the first Thursday of each month. These
informal discussions focus on trending, pertinent topics. This
free event does not require registration. The Zoom link will be
sent out a few days before the event. During our video
chats, special guests will share information and answer
questions.
Join us for the March 6, 2025, Coffee Talk, which will be held
from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
The upcoming May issue of the WMA Reporter magazine is our annual
membership issue. This issue covers information and the benefits
of being a WMA member.
